Gigablock Continuous Ink System for Epson Artisan 710 725 810 and 835 All-in-One Printer Related Cartridge T098120 T098220 T098320 T098420 T098520 T098620

Product Description

The CIS(Continuous Ink System) consists of a high-capacity ink reservoir (same as using between 8 ~ 10 ink cartridges per color) that is attached to a cartridge via secure tubing. The tubing acts as a vacuum to extract ink from the reservoir and keep the cartridge full of ink. Because of the large reservoir capacity, you can print for an extended period of time without running low right away. There is a red line on the reservoir to indicate when it is time to refill. Each CIS comes complete with easy-to-follow instructions, ink, and all accessories needed to successfully use the system. The included UCI cartridges have a permanent smart chip already installed, which will automatically reset itself when your printer power is turned off (for 5 seconds) and turned back on. No mess! No leaking!

Excellent product, excellent ink
By Ok2bclever
The installation of this specific product is straightforward.

It requires no modification of the Epson Artison 810 that I purchased it for.

The ink supply hose routes across the front top (just behind the tilting control panel)of the unit to the left side where you place the ink supply itself.

The hose is long enough to locate the ink supply towards the left rear of the printer although not long enough to place it all the way behind the unit when routed across the front.

I believe you would be able to route the hose directly to the rear with the destructive modifications I have watched on a competing CISS unit, but I prefer not grinding sections off my brand new printer and the direction the ink supply hose comes out of the cartridge units is not ideal for direct routing to the rear.

The only downside I experienced in the installtion was the ink supply hose makes it hard to fully close the unit.

After completing the installation and turning the printer back on I kept getting the alarm notification to close the cover for the unit to work (it will not work/print if it is detecting the cover is not closed).

Putting a little downward pressure on the top of the printer would stop the alarm, but as soon as I released the pressure the alarm would start up again making the unit non-functional.

Perhaps some energetic bending and compression of the ink tubing would have fixed this, but I was hesitant to do that.

I resolved this with the use of a little black gaffers tape along the right side of the unit to keep the slight downward pressure on the lid to keep it from popping up that little amount that was triggering the "lid up" alarm.

You could use black electrical tape to do the same thing I would think although I prefer the gaffers tape for it's reuseability and the fact that it does not leave any residue (it's specific function in video applications).

I actually used the black gaffers tape along the entire path for aesthetic reasons.

The tubing is not excessively obnoxious without the tape, but the black tape makes the entire assembly blend in with the black body of the printer to make it look like a much more custom installation.

I also applied some industrial strength velcro tape to the backside of the ink supply container and the left rear side of the printer making the external ink supply and printer one functional unit for minor moving the printer around.

Just prior to installing this unit I printed off a half dozen 8.5 x 11 photos using the original Epson ink cartridges (boy, did that empty out those cartridges fast!)

I used both bright and pastel color subject matter and human face shots.

I have found correct flesh reproduction shades the hardest thing for non-OEM ink to replicate accurately.

The ink that came with this system is excellent and in immediate casual comparison I decided to place a small pen mark on the rear side of the non-OEM versions of the photos.

In close and critical A/B examination of these 8.5 x 11 prints, using the exact same source photos and printer settings I actually cannot distinguish between the Epson original ink and this non-OEM ink.

Also, this non-OEM ink appears to dry just as fast (basically immediately after applying) as the Epson ink and there has been no smearing issues using the auto-duplex feature of the 810.

Regarding UV resistance and long term duration claims and comparisons, only time will tell, but I am fully happy with the quality of this non-OEM ink and the entire CISS system.

What you gain in efficiency, you lose in convenience.

I do a lot of printing on my 710. Of course if you didn't why would you even be looking at this item.

Everything is great except that it does not recognize the magenta cartridge about half the time. Every time it happens you have to fight with it to get it to print. The manual the CIS comes with says to take out the cartridges turn off the printer, replace, then turn back on. I have done this repeatedly up to at least 5 times with out it working. I find it best just to turn it off and walk away. Come back later. Which really sucks when you've got to get something you need to get printed at that very moment.
I had an epson stylus photo RX580 printer with a CIS system and it would have this problem every once in a while but it was not always the same cartridge every time. Due to this, when it was time for a new printer I wanted to stick to epson printers but was hoping the ink cartridges would be more efficient. They were not.
I have worse luck with this system then I did my last. The cartridges are a pain in the neck to remove as well.
Since it is always the same cartridge, I believe there may be a defect with that one.
I also fear that one day the hoses will start leaking from closing the lid and pinching them over and over again. I'm going to shave off a little trench in the plastic so that doesn't happen.
I contacted the seller (Print4ever) about the issue. He gave me a few tips, but they did not work. The seller informed me that if it continued, I would receive a new chip to replace the faulty one. He was lying. He never sent me the chip.
I would suggest looking elsewhere for your CIS.

Good Ink System
By Frank J. Canha
I was really impressed with the packaging of this product. It came in a very attractive glossy box with photos of the product on the outside. Inside the box the product was packaged well and secured so no ink would spill during shipment.

I chose to modify my Artisan 810 by using a Dremel to cut some plastic to make the ribbon fit with the printer lid closed.

I followed the directions per: [...] because I liked the idea of running the ribbon straight back.

If you prefer not to modify your printer this looks like a good solution [...]

The suggested ribbon routing instructions that came with this product probably would cause the printer top to not fully close.

One thing to watch out for is to fully press the top of the cartridges (the end with the electronic contacts) into the printer.

I thought I had sufficiently inserted the cartridge into the printer but kept getting a "insert ink cartridges" message.

You must insert the cartridge until the top part "clicks" in to place. After this was done, Voila! The printer recognized the ink and was ready to go!

First test on tap was the photo test and it passed with flying colors! Excellent detailed photos with this ink. It was dry when the photo came out and was thoroughly impressed with photo results. Still lab quality like the OEM Epson inks.

Great value!
